The Tournament of Books: OCES students were invited to read 16 books selected by their teachers. In March, they began voting for their favorites. This year's winner was "The Wild Robot" by Peter Brown. Thank you to Hertrich and the Cash for Class program for the generous donation which enabled the teachers to purchase the winning book for each student.

WCPS Families, to stem any confusion, please be aware that school is in session tomorrow, April 23. In August 2023, the Board of Education adopted a calendar revision moving the Countywide PD Day from April 23, to May 14, to align with the Presidential Primary election date. As this change occurred prior to the start of the school year, all of our countywide calendars have accurately reflected this information since that time.

This year's annual Kids Heart Challenge at Ocean City Elementary School raised $30,775. Pictured with OCES students, physical education teachers, Mr. Mark Engle and Mrs. Tracey Drocella with Ms. Kim Moore, the school engagement director for the American Heart Association. This will make the grand total donated by OCES students and their families throughout the years to over $535,000. As part of the 2024 Kids Heart Challenge event, students learned about young heroes born with heart defects and heard stories of their successful journeys through treatment.
